D1.A.3 Member Properties

The AISC 360 design codes can be used to design members that are specified from a range of specific section profiles.

Profiles are added in the MEMBER PROPERTY definition and can be selected from the following shapes:

  • Standard hot-rolled steel profiles

    Standard and legacy database

    • Wide flange - with or without additional top or bottom cover plates.
      Note: If the profile is welded rather than rolled (for example, the B shape profiles from the US database), then this should be specified using the STP 2 parameter (refer to D1.A.6 Design Parameters for details).
    • Channel - single only
    • Angle - single and double
    • Tee - including tee cut from wide flange section
    • Pipe - including HSS round
    • Tube - including HSS rectangle
  • User table profiles
    • Wide flange
    • Angle
    • Channel
    • Double angle
    • Tee
    • Pipe
    • Tube
    • I Section - typically used as web-tapered sections
  • Prismatic
    • Tapered I
Note: Profiles not listed above are not supported for design per AISC 360.

Material Properties

If the assigned material definition includes values for yield and ultimate strength, those values will be used as the default material strengths for AISC 360-16 design. Refer to Note 10 in D1.A.6 Design Parameters for details.
